Chapter 16

We walk inside a sterile looking white building, hand-in-hand. I had to meet Harper here immediately after work, so I’m stuck in my suit while she gets to wear her comfortable clothes. Inside, we are greeted by a middle-aged woman with frizzy hair and a tie-dyed jacket.

"I'm so glad you've decided to join us," she says as she thrusts her hand out towards me.

I look down at it and then back up at her. I have no problems with Harper or the woman who's going to grope her vagina during birth touching my hands. But other people? That’s still a big, fat nope. I nod instead. "Nowhere else I'd rather be.”

Yeah fucking right. I'd rather be back at work. Or at home watching the game with a beer in my hand. Hell, I'd even rather be on one of our 4 hour grocery store trips where Harper reads every label to make sure every ingredient is FDA approved.

That's how little I want to be here right now. But I love my wife and I love it when she’s happy, so there really isn’t a way around this. At least not without ending up in the doghouse and, believe me, that is not where I’m trying to be this week. Sleeping on the couch is hardly my idea of fun.

Harper scowls at me before reaching out and shaking her hand. Hell has officially frozen over. Harper has became a germ Nazi since I knocked her up. I cannot believe she just did that.

But as soon as we walk away, she pulls out a tube of hand sanitizer and dumps nearly half the thing in her palm.

That's more like it.

I help ease her down on a blue mat in the middle of the room. Several other couples and the occasional single woman enter the room over the next few minutes. I watch as a very pregnant woman waddles in with her husband. He's attractive in the annoying way people are when they know they're attractive. I can already tell what an ass he is. His wife struggles to get down on the floor and he stands behinds her with his arms crossed, doing nothing to help.

I'm pretty sure that once your pregnant wife reaches Beached Whale status that you should probably help her at least a little bit. What a douche.

As soon as he sits down on the side closest to me, he looks over and smiles. "Hey, I'm David."

"Roma," I warily reply. Harper's eyes are closed in presumed meditation, so I nod my chin towards her. "Harper."

He looks us both over. Slowly. Too slowly.

"Not many people would willingly come to one of these classes with a friend," he winks. "Guess that means you must be pretty great."

“She’s my wife,” I correct.

His brow quirks, but I turn away from him before he can say something gross. Typical.

When the middle-aged woman (introduced as Sarah) asks if there are any questions, a young woman in the front of the room raises her hand. She looks maybe sixteen or seventeen, so I’m not surprised by her question.
